The new management of Badagry Recreation Park (BRP) on Monday said that there were plans to create a mini museum and zoo to boost activities in the park.
The Managing Director, Centre for Heritage Preservation, who is now in charge of BRP, Mr Emmanuel Hunkalin, made this known in Badagry.
BRP was built by Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK).
Hunkalin said that the proposed mini museum would boost activities at the park and increase the number of tourists in the site.
“We are planning a mini museum that will educate our children and tourists about the country’s heritage and festivals.
“It will tell the story behind the festivals in Lagos State and other parts of the country as well as the past and present governors of the state.
“We are talking about a museum that will have nuke arts, terracotta arts, Benin Arts, Ife arts and so on.
“The museum that would talk about Yoruba culture, Ibo culture, Hausa culture and other tribes in Nigeria,’’ he said.
Hunkalin said that the park would also have a mini zoo where children would be opportune to see animals like antelope, birds, rabbit and others, when they come on visits to the park.
He said that the park had a separate hall being used as arts and gallery shop, saying that visitors to the BRP could use the opportunity to buy souvenir from Badagry.
Hunkalin urged the residents of Badagry to make use of the facilities by visiting the park during the yuletide.
“We have a lot of facilities here for relaxation, enjoyment and entertainment.
“Some of the facilities for people’s enjoyment are multi-purpose tennis court, fitness arena and water fountain.
“We also have games like snooker board, table-tennis, monopoly, Ayo Olopon, the Yoruba board game, scrabble, among others.
“We also have the children’s playing section, ladders, swing and we are planning to bring in more of the children’s games, ‘’ he said.
He, however, promised to operate a greener and healthier park as recommended by LASPARK rules and regulations.
Hunkalin urged the Lagos State Government to repair the road leading to the park, saying that the activities of sand dredgers had damaged the road.
