We are ready for councillorship by-election in Bariga – LASIEC

By Elizabeth ADENUGA

The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) on Monday said it had concluded arrangements for the conduct of the Bariga Ward C Councillorship election scheduled for Tuesday.

The Commission’s Chairman, Justice Ayotunde Phillips, made this know at a news conference in Lagos.

The  election is to fill the vacuum following the death of Mr Solomon Awokoya, an All Progressives Congress (APC) councillor who represented the ward.

Phillips said all the essentials had been put in place for the election, adding that the commission was set to conduct a successful and hitch-free election.

She said that LASIEC had secured the assurances of security agencies and other stakeholders to maintain peace during the election.

Phillips, however, appealed to residents to turn out and vote for the candidate of their choice between the two candidates of the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) participating in the election.

Giving details on how the election would be conducted, Phillips said that the exercise would take place from 9.00a.m to 3.00p.m.

She said that movement would not be restricted to enable residents to attend to other businesses as soon as they were through with voting.

”We will set up a monitoring unit to monitor the whole process.

”Also, the votes will be compiled immediately after the election and results will be announced.

”We are committed to transparent conduct of the election and I urge residents to come out to vote for their choice candidate,” she said.
