By Meletus EZE

Mr Okeowo Olayiwola, a member of staff of the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS), on Friday escaped death in an accident when a trailer carrying plywood discharged it on his car.

The accident which occurred at about 4.40 p.m. at the Chemist Bus stop, Okota Road, Isolo, Lagos, also involved a pick-up van that suffered the same fate.

No casualty was recorded as Olayiwola was rescued from his Toyota Corolla car, which was crushed in the accident caused by bad road.

The trailer had apparently moved into a crater on the road which had been there for several years and had its load discharged as it fell halfway on its side.

Witnesses said that they thanked God Almighty that the man survived the accident.

They also said that government officials had neglected the road, leaving it in disrepair and appealed to the Lagos State Government to urgently repair it.

Narrating his ordeal, Olayiwola, who was full of praises to God Almighty that he survived, thanked those that came to his rescue.

He said that he would not have been involved in the accident if the vehicle he was following had not stopped to pick up a passenger.

Olayiwola said he was in a stable condition, as he did not sustain any injury and felt no pain immediately.

The Police, officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and the Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps (LNSC) were on hand to redirect traffic and ensure there was smooth flow of traffic.
