3 arraigned over alleged conspiracy, possession of EKEDC property

By Elizabeth ADENUGA

An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday admitted three men to N50,000 bail each after being charged with conspiracy and unlawful possession of Eko Electric Distribution Company (EKEDC’s) Almond cables.

The defendants are: Olayinka Azeez, 22; Mohammed Yusuf, 18; and Abu Sendu, 24, all residents of Ijora-Badia,  Lagos State.

They had pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Olufunke Sule-Amzat, ruled that the defendants must also produce two sureties each, who must show evidence of payment of three years’ tax to the Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the case until May 27.

Earlier, the prosecutor, Insp. Benson Emuerhi,  told the court that the defendants committed the offences on Jan. 17,  at 12.40a.m. at Ijora-Badia.

He said: “The trio were apprehended by policemen on a stop-and-search duty.

“They could not give a satisfactory explanation on the ownership of some quantities of the Eko Electricity Almond cables found in their possession,” he said.

Emuerhi said that the defendants conspired with others still at large to commit the offences.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 329 and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.—-NAN
