Easter: Lawmaker urges various ethnic groups to forgive one another

A Lagos lawmaker, Victor Akande, on Friday called on various ethnic groups in the country to forgive one another for the nation to attain the dream of its founding fathers.
TBI Africa.com said Akande, representing Ojo Constituency I, at the Lagos State House of Assembly, made the call in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
According to him, Nigeria’s unity is very imperative to its prosperity and the progress of its citizens.

“This period of Easter symbolises forgiveness which Christ came to preach, so, we must forgive ourselves in this country if our quest to move forward is anything to go by.
“We have suffered enough because of acrimony and animosity among ourselves and groups.
“Jesus Christ that we are remembering his crucifixion, death and resurrection this season, knew the importance of forgiveness and peace with one another.
“We may not be able to achieve anything meaningful in this country if we are not united by forgiving one another.
“Where there is no peace, there cannot be development,” he said.
Akande, who is also the Chairman, House Committee on Science and Technology, frowned at ethno-religious violence in some parts of the country.
He, however, urged Nigerians to see themselves as brothers and sisters regardless of ethnic and religious differences.
The lawmaker urged government at all levels to give priority attention to the unity of the country to move it to a greater heights.
“We cannot be divided along ethnic and religious line and make progress as a nation, ” he added.
