NNPC reaffirms commitment to adequate fuel supply at Easter

… Daily gas supply to power plants hits 300m scf

The Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Dr. Maikanti Baru, has reaffirmed the readiness of the NNPC to ensure adequate supply of petroleum products in all the nook and cranny of the country during the Easter holidays and beyond.

Dr. Baru who gave this commitment during the conferment on him of the “Distinguished Merit Award’’ by the Association of Business Managers and Administrators of Nigeria in Abuja said the corporation currently had 1.7 billion litres of petrol in stock, equivalent to 35 days sufficiency without adding a drop, saying plans were afoot to increase it to 2.4 billion litres by the end of the month.

A release by the NNPC Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs, Mr. Ndu Ughamadu, stated that the corporation’s helmsman informed that currently NNPC was responsible for 75 per cent of gas supply to power in the country to the tune of over 300 million standard cubic feet (Scf) of gas per day.

The enthused NNPC GMD said he dedicated the award to President Muhammadu Buhari for his support for the Oil and Gas Industry.

Speaking earlier, registrar of the Association of Business Managers and Administrators of Nigeria, Dr. Ike Christopher, said Dr. Baru was selected for the merit award because of his role in the disappearance of fuel queues from fuel stations, especially during the last Christmas and New Year festivities.

He noted that the seamless supply of petroleum products had brought about stability in prices of goods and services across the country.

On the Easter holidays, Dr. Ike advised Nigerians not to engage in panic buying of petrol, saying the NNPC under Dr. Baru had demonstrated the capacity to sustain the seamless supply of petrol in the country during festive periods and beyond.
