Group calls for prompt payment of taxes for sustainable development

Chief Ugochukwu Nnam, President, Initiative for Leadership Development and Change (ILDÇ), says payment of taxes is necessary for sustainable development and good governance, especially in developing countries like Nigeria.

TBI Africa.com said Nnam made the call for payment of taxes by Nigerians in an interview with the Ñews Agency of Nigeria (ÑAN) on Tuesday in Abuja while speaking on ways of supporting government to deliver on its promises.

He said that tax evasion was not only unpatriotic but could be best described as “economic sabotage” to the state and country.

“When you pay taxes, you are supporting government to provide the necessities of life for yourself and others.

“In Europe and America, tax is non-negotiable hence, the good roads and regular power supply among others,” Nñam said.

The ILDC boss said that if people continued to evade tax payment, government would find it difficult to meet citizens’ demands only based on oil proceeds.

He described the APC-led Federal Government as sincere and committed to the progress of the people and would utilise the tax judiciously.

According to him, unlike previous the administrations, this government has purpose and vision to develop Nigeria.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that ILDC is a non-governmental organisation interested in the promotion of good governance in Nigeria.
