Erosion hitting my constituency seriously — Lagos Rep

Rep. James Owolabi, a member of the House of Representatives representing Ifako-Ijaiye Federal Constituency, Lagos State on Saturday said that erosion was a serious problem affecting his constituency.

Owolabi spoke with newsmen at his victory party held at Ifako-Ijaiye Mini Stadium.

He said he had visited several areas in the constituency affected by the problem, promising to do all within his power to address various issues confronting his constituents.

“Erosion is hitting my constituency seriously. We have this challenge and I have started going round to see this. This is my first priority,” Owolabi said.

He said that he was determined to be very close to the people at the grassroots and be their voice.

“I want to advise my people to calm down, I am going to deliver.

“I am close to the grassroots. I have been contesting for so many years now, since 1995.

” I know what what they what, people should calm down, I am going to deliver,” he said.

On the motive of the victory party, Owolabi said that he gathered the people together to thank them for giving him and the All Progressives Congress (APC) their mandate during the general elections.

The lawmaker said that he would constitute an advisory committee comprising critical stakeholders in the federal constituency on peculiar needs and challenges of the people.

He said that the committee would comprise members of Community Development Committee, Community Development Association, transport unions, market women, among others.

On security, Owolabi said that the nation’s security challenges would be best handled if approval was given for the creation of state police.

Also speaking, Dr Waleel Ipaye, a member of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC) in Ifako-Ijaiye said that Owolabi was needed at this time in the constituency, expressing confidence that he would deliver.

The party leaders, members, present and past council executives chairmen, religious and traditional leaders among those were in attendance.

Also at the gathering were the Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Mr Mudashiru Obasa; and members representing Ifako-Ijaiye Constituencies I and II at the Lagos Assembly, Mr Temitope Adewale and Mr Rasheed Makinde respectively
