Rotary District 9142 seeks support for social devt programmes

Rotary International District 9142 has urged Abia government to support its social development programmes, which are crucial to the development of the society.

District Governor of 9142, gave the call on Wednesday, Dr Dan Ajara,  when members of  the organisation paid Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia a visit in Government House, Umuahia.

Ajara said that Rotary was committed to making progressive contributions to the society through the achievement of its targets and objectives.

He said: “Our proposed projects for the year cover six areas of focus, which include establishing several water and sanitation projects in the seven of states of our District, Micro credit scheme to assist indigent Nigerians, Scholarship scheme for brilliant students, as well as conflict prevention and resolution projects.

“We have several projects that will address maternal and child health challenges, then disease prevention and treatment programmes as well as free surgeries.

Ajara, who said the Rotary 2018 theme “Be the inspiration”,  added that he was optimistic that the District would record 100 per cent success in its programmes.

He commended the state government for the giant strides it had made in various sectors of the economy.

Ajara expressed hope that the District would receive huge support from the state government through its social-development-friendly programmes.

Responding, Gov. Ikpeazu described the Rotary cause as a calling to inspire and  change the lives of members of the society. Ikpeazu said the state government would not relent in giving its support to programmes and activities that would make positive impacts on the state and nation.
