The Niger State Cash Transfer Unit (NSCTU) on Sunday said that 762 vulnerable people in Borgu Local Government Area have benefitted from the Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) programme since 2016.
Malam Musa kidebe, Desk Officer of the programme in Borgu disclosed this in New-bussa on Sunday.
Kidebe said that the CCT programme has impacted positively on the lives of the common people in the area.
“I can confidently tell you that we have 762 poor people receiving N10,000 every two months from the Niger state off of the CCT programme,” he said.
He expressed optimism that in the next two years the programme would improve in the efforts to alleviate poverty among the rural populace.
Kidebe, however, said that prompt payment of allowances and provision of mobility to facilitators of the programme at the rural level would enhance its implementation.
Also, Hajiya Fatima Musa, a beneficiary from Shagunu area of Borgu, said that the programme has improved the living condition of her household.
From 2016 when the programme started and 2018, the federal government has spent N15 billion on 326,000 households which translated to 1.8 million persons across 20 states.
The funds expended includes capacity and entrepreneurship training and the monthly stipend of N5,000 to each beneficiary.
The programme is one of the components of social investment programme initiated by President Muhammad Buhari to reduce poverty among Nigerians.
