2019: Bauchi Council of NUJ warns members to be wary of politicians with hidden agenda

Bauchi State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on Wednesday cautioned its members against being used by selfish politicians to achieve a goal.

In a communique issued after its congress meeting in Bauchi, the council noted that the word of caution was paramount as the 2019 general elections drew closer.

It said any member that allowed himself or herself to be used, would be violating the ethics of the profession.

The council also advised practicing journalists in the state to ensure that they were registered with the union, warning that henceforth only members that had formal registration would participate in the activities of the Union.

The council noted with concern, case of violence in some parts of the country and therefore called on the Federal Government to take decisive action against those responsible for breach of peace.

“Due to the rising cases of violence in the country, we hereby call on the Federal Government to expedite actions, which will bring a lasting solution that would put an end to the rising cases of violence in the country.

“We also call on the Federal  Government to use everything in its power to bring the people trying to make the country ungovernable, to book,especially those playing violent politics to the detriment of lives and wellbeing of  Nigeria citizens,” said the union.

It called on all citizens to work towards ensuring that the forthcoming general elections were conducted peacefully.

“We also call on all Nigerians to take deliberate steps towards ensuring that the 2019 general elections are free of violence by exhibiting attitude of utmost decorum.
