The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), has commended members of the National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) for suspending its industrial action.
Mr Oyebode Fadipe, the AEDC General Manager, Corporate Communications commended the union in a statement issued in Abuja on Thursday.
The union had issued a 21-day ultimatum to the Minister of Power, Mr Sale Mamman to implement their demands.
The ultimatum lapsed midnight Tuesday with the union’s demands still unmet.
Following the development, the union began an indefinite strike on Wednesday morning leading to the shutdown of most of the offices of Distribution Companies (Discos) across the country.
Fadipe said that the staff and management of AEDC received with great joy suspension of the industrial action embarked upon by members of NUEE.
He said that from information available to AEDC, parties directly connected with the issues that led to the industrial action met until the early hours of Thursday.
“This demonstrates their commitment to the speedy resolution of the issues that gave rise to the industrial action.
“It also allows the restoration of normal service to customers who are already becoming apprehensive, especially as the yuletide period approaches when they stock their homes with edible items.
“In line with our tradition of service delivery, we have also informed our staff of this development and directed their return to their duty posts in franchise area.
“Customers should therefore look forward to our usual commitment to service delivery,’’ the general manager said.
Fadipe appreciated AEDC’s customers, who demonstrated understanding through their patience during the strike.
“We are also grateful to the stakeholders for responding speedily to the challenge posed by the industrial action,’’ he said.
He reminded all AEDC’s customers that they could purchase electricity token from online payment channels as well as third party vendors.
Fadipe said that customers owing may be disconnected by special revenue recovery taskforce that had been set up to recover outstanding debts.
