Christmas: Cleric urges Nigerians to obey God’s injunctions

Rt. Rev. Jesugo Awumenu, the Bishop of United African Methodist Church, Cathedral, Badagry, on Wednesday urged Nigerians, especially Christians, to obey God’s injunctions, if they wanted His blessings.

The cleric made the appeal during the Church Service to mark the birth of Jesus Christ in Badagry.

He said that as children are expected to obey their parents at all times, so also Christians are expected to obey God’s injunctions.

Awumenu said that these days, many children were not respectful, so also many Christians.

According to the cleric, God’s injunction calls for love, peace and unity among Nigerians and with the rest of the world.

“Christians need to be tolerant in all ramifications of life and also to show love to the human race.

“Also, all Nigerians in spite of religious differences, should pursue love, unity, peace, justice, forgiveness and goodwill toward all men to move our nation forward,” the cleric said.

According to him, the core message of Christmas is love, as demonstrated by God, who gave His only begotten son, Jesus Christ, to be born as a man for our salvation.

“Dec. 25 every year is symbolic to the entire world. It marks the birth of the only begotten son of God, thus prompting the nation Nigeria and the whole world to live together in peace and unity.

“If you really want the blessings of God, then you must obey God’s injunctions. Children should obey their parents at all time. Nowadays most of our children are not respectful,” Awumenu said.

He urged the three tiers of government to provide jobs for the young generation.
