Niger PDP Women Leader wants more women in politics

By Giwa SHILE

Hajia Sa’adatu Kolo, PDP Women Leader in Niger, has urged women to participate in politics and seek election into offices so as to influence decision making processes.

Kolo said on Saturday in Minna that it was “very dangerous” for women to shy away from politics and leave the turf for only men.

“Women cannot afford to shy away from politics; they constitute the largest voting group and are usually the worst hit by any bad political decision.

“Poverty has been the lot of many women. Some of them are also the victims of violence that usually erupt from bad political decisions.

“Issues like children, welfare, human rights, fairness are best understood by women. The need for peace is also best understood by women because they bear the brunt of every violence. We must stand up so that our voices will be heard,” she said.

Kolo, who is contesting the Mashegu/Munya/Wushishi/ Kontagora Federal Constituency seat, said that she was fired on by the quest for quality representation and the need to bring issues affecting women to the front burner.

“More women in politics means more women problems will receive more attention,” she said. ’

Kolo advised women to obtain their Permanent Voters’ Cards and use it to determine Nigeria’s leaders.
