The All Progressives Congress(APC), may be heading to court to protest the handing over of the Certificate of Return to Senator Duoye Diri, by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Friday, clearing the way for him to be inaugurated as the new Governor of Bayelsa State.
Indecation to this, came moments after the commission handed over the vital document to Diri after recognising him as the governor-elect, at its headquarters in Abuja, thus, laying to rest controversies arising from the order of the Supreme Court that the candidate with the highest votes, who meets the 25 per cent votes in two-thirds of the local governments be declared winner.
The apex court had made the pronouncement after disqualifying the candidate of the APC, David Lyon, who initially won the November 16, 2019 election, for contesting with a running mate, with fake credentials.
But in rejecting the declaration of Diri as Governor-elect of Bayelsa APC National Chairman Adams Oshiomhole, who had, moments after the Supreme Court’s verdict on Thursday, vowed that PDP would never take over Bayelsa and that no governor would be sworn in on Friday, told reporters that INEC “illegally declaring Diri as Governor-elect,” amounted to the commission appropriating judicial powers to itself over the matter.
Vowing that the move would not stand without challenge, he said the party would be heading to court to get legal redress and get judicial help to reclaim the mandate freely given by the people of the state.
