Ministry, BPE partner to facilitate sports sector funding, commercialisation

Sunday Dare, Nigeria’s Youth and Sports Development Minister  says the ministry will partner with the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) to facilitate funding and commercialisation of sports in the country.

Dare who stated during a meeting with BPE officials in Abuja on Tuesday said the partnership would fast track the rehabilitating sports facilities in the country.

The minister said that inadequate funding was a major challenge to sports development in the country.

“The ministry is liaising with stakeholders in the sports sector, the partnership that we are working on will enable us rehabilitate national sports facilities

“We are working closely with the BPE to attract more private sector-based funding and support for the sports sector,” he said.

He said that existing sports facilities in the country required upgrading in order to be put to commercial use.

In line with the above realisation, there is a new commitment to enliven the sports sector, we are not going back on it.

Earlier, Mr Alex Okoh, BPE Director-General, said that the bureau was committed towards ensuring effective private sector participation in Nigeria’s sports development.

He said that there was need for government to exude strong political will to ensure the success of the partnership project.
