Reps summons contractor over Enugu airport project

The House of Representatives Committee on Aviation has given the  Federal Ministry of Aviation three weeks to submit papers concerning the  contract for the construction of General Aviation Terminal  and Pilot Lounge  at the  Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.

Saturday PUNCH learnt that both buildings, which have been roofed, were marked for demolition by the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria  due to what they tagged ‘structural defects.’

But the Chairman House Committee on Aviation, Nnolim Nnaji, gave the directive, when he led members of the committee for an oversight function on the airport, to summon the contractor to  explain how much was spent on the project.

The committee also inspected the VOR/DME and Meteorological facilities, ILS installations 26/08, Runway Civil/AFL works and Cargo site.

Nnaji told  the contractor handling the rehabilitation of the airport runway shut down on August 24, 2019 to deliver the project before Easter as earlier agreed.

Nnaji who expressed displeasure over the pace of work on the runway, said the National Assembly would not accept any excuse from the contractor for failure.
