Two provinces in the North of Iraq, as well as a number of districts in another province, has been deprived of electricity supply due to a terrorist attack.
The Iraqi Electricity Ministry reported this on Thursday.
“On Thursday morning, the Kirkuk-Diyala high-voltage electric transmission line was subject to a terrorist act of sabotage near the Ajana crossing point Diyala province that resulted in a both sides line break,’’ the ministry said via its official website.
According to the ministry, the Nineveh province, the Kirkuk province and a part of the Salah ad Din province are left without electricity.
The ministry did not reveal who was liable for the attack, but reported that the electrical transmission line’s repair works were underway.
This is the eighth incident at this electrical transmission line over the past two months.
Since early July, mass protest actions have been held in a number of Iraqi locations.
The demonstrators protest against corruption, unemployment, and poor state of communal services sector, namely, the disruptions in the electricity and water supplies.
According to local authorities, there are still some cells of Islamic State (the IS terrorist organisation, outlawed in Russia) left in Iraq despite the fact the end of the country’s fight against IS was declared in December.
