World Bank grants N70m to 7 Enugu communities for development projects – Official

By Aliyu DANLADI

The General Manager, Community and Social Development Project (CSDP), Enugu State, Dr Maximus Asogwa, said the World Bank has given seven communities in the state N10 million each for developmental projects.

Asogwa made this known on Monday in Enugu at the presentation of the first tranche (30 per cent) of the total fund to leaders of each of the benefiting communities.

Asogwa said the projects included extension of electricity, rehabilitation of roads/bridges, construction of classroom/principal office blocks, boreholes, market and civic centres, among others.

The CSDP boss reiterated the need for judicious use of the funds, stressing that accountability remained the watch word of the state government under Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.

“We are happy that the World Bank in conjunction with the Enugu State Government has come to your rescue.

“The funds are ready in our office. When you utilise the first tranche of 30 per cent as expected, the second tranche of 50 per cent will be disbursed to you.

“The third tranche of 20 per cent will be given for the completion of the project. Nobody is expected to divert the money for private use. There should be transparency,” he added.

The benefiting communities are Ameke-Oduma and Amanasato-Oduma communities both in Aninri Local Government Area and Emeora and Mbuluowo communities in Enugu-East Local Government Area.

Others are Etiti-Ozalla community in Nkanu-West Local Government Area and Amagu and Okachamma communities in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of the State.

Representatives of the communities lauded the World Bank, State government and CSDP for their timely intervention, saying the projects had rekindled their confidence in the government.

TBI Africa reports that each of the seven communities will get N10 million worth of project totaling N70 million with the projects scheduled to be delivered within six months.

It would be recalled that the World Bank, in conjunction with Enugu State government, had recently presented N40 million for developmental projects to four rural communities in the state.
