Buhari renews Akabueze’s tenure as Budget Office DG

The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari, (retd.) has approved the renewal of the tenure of Mr Benjamin Akabueze as Director- General of the Budget Office of the Federation.

The development was disclosed in a statement signed by Special Adviser, Media and Communications, to the Minister of Finance, Budget and National Planning, Yunusa Abdullahi.

Akabueze was first appointed as Special Adviser, Planning, to the President, on February 15, 2016 and later redeployed and appointed as Director-General, Budget, on June 10, 2016, to “handle the nagging issues in the Budget Office at that time”.

The appointment was to expire on June 10, 2020.

The statement explained that the Budget Office was undergoing several reforms under Akabueze’s leadership.

The reforms are aimed at improving the effectiveness and efficiency of the organisation.

“Akabueze has a track record of sterling performance and it is due to his achievements that Mr President has approved his tenure to be renewed for another term in order to institutionalise the achievements for a sustainable improvement in the Budget Office of the Federation,” the statement added.
