Residents of Lafenwa-Ayetoro Road, Itele, a border community between Lagos and Ogun, on Saturday expressed delight over the prompt removal of a broken down petrol-laden tanker following a distress call.
It would be recalled that the tanker with registration no. UDD 275 XA, owned by Pondolivia Oil and Gas Ltd., broke down on the road since Monday.
The efforts made by the residents to remove the tanker were unsuccessful as it began to spill its content when members of the community attempted to push it away to avert disaster.
TBI Africa also reports that the deplorable condition of the road, particularly the sections leading to Ota and Itele in Ogun State, was responsible for the incessant breakdown of trucks and tankers on the road.
A leader in the community, Mr Olaniyi Ajose, lauded the efforts of Ota Local Government Area of Ogun and owner of the tanker for their prompt responses.
Ajose called for prompt action in repairing the roads to avoid future recurrences and ensure ease access for commuters. “We appreciate the efforts of the local government officials and of Pondolivia Oil and Gas for removing the tanker.
“One must never underestimate the power of the media as respite came after we made a distress call.
“We, however, pleaded with the Ogun State Government to speed up the process of ensuring that we have good roads to aid commuting,” he said.
TBI Africa reports that the Lagos State Government had already reconstructed its own section of the road from Ipaja to Ayobo area of Lagos up to Mopol Junction at Ogun Boundary.
The road, which has a long bridge linking the two states, was inaugurated on Easter Monday by Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode
