The Management of Sabon Gari Market in Kano says it has lost over N15m revenue as a result of the lockdown in the state.
The Director, Administration and General Services of the market, Muhammad Bashir, disclosed said this in Kano when the market was reopened on Wednesday after 45 days closure.
He said, “As a result of this loss, we cannot even pay our staff salaries, You know, we are a government company, we pay our staff from the revenue we generate.
“Every month, we generate over N12m, out of which we normally spend over N8m on payment of workers’ salaries.” he said.
Bashir noted that with the large number of customers trooping to the market, the management cannot ensure social distancing among the people.
He appealed to the state government to come to the aid of the market to enable it to pay workers’ salaries to reduce the hardship they were facing due to the lockdown.
“We are seeking urgent government financial support as the market has lost over N15m internally generated revenue due to the lockdown slammed on Kano,” he said.
