Regularise planning permit for your building plan, LASPPA urges Lagos residents

By Giwa SHILE

The Lagos State Physical Planning Permit Authority (LASPPA) on Wednesday advised every owner/developer of property, not covered by a planning permit, to regularise it with the agency.

The General Manager, LASPPPA Mr. Funmi Osifuye, gave the advice in Lagos, that the regularisation and validation of buildings in the state was necessary to avoid disruption/demolition by the agency due to lack of building plan approval.

According to him, LASPPPA, in conjunction with the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), have embarked on Joint Post Construction Audit of all existing structures in the state.

He said this was to match-up with necessary infrastructure development to achieve a sustainable and well-planned environment.

The general manager said the exercise would also ascertain the structural stability to prevent building collapse.

“Every property/building in the state must be validated and regularised in line with the specifications of the state Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development.

“This can be done by submitting ‘As built Design Drawings’ to LASPPA’s District offices or submit electronic format of the drawings online through the Electronic Planning Permit (epp) platform,” he said.

Osifuye said the exercise, which had been ongoing since February, would end by Aug.31.

He said Building Permit/Building Plan Approval certification, not only add value to the property, but also enhance proper planning of the environment to save lives.

The general manager appealed to residents of the state to use the remaining grace to submit their building plans for assessment, saying after the deadline of Aug. 31, there would be penalty.

“Lagos residents should not see us as deterrent to their state of living. We are not trying to make life unbearable for them.

“The motive for the whole exercise is to ensure a conducive and well-planned livable environment for all,” Osifuye said
