A Nigerian carrier, Aero Contractors, says it has intensified efforts to pay the entitlements and benefits of some of its workers declared redundant in March 2017.
The Managing Director of the carrier, Capt. Ado Sanusi, confirmed the development to newsmen in Lagos on Wednesday.
Sanusi said apart from recalling some of the workers, who were earlier relieved of their appointments, the management would ensure that those affected were paid their severance packages.
He said the management planned to disburse about N50 million monthly to the affected staff, adding that some of them would also be recalled as the airline’s fleet increases.
“On the payment of some of the redundant workers, about 30 of them have been paid so far since the beginning of this month, but what we are doing is payment from bottom to top.
“Very soon, others will be paid. Our intention is to disburse at least N50 million to the affected workers monthly,” Sanusi explained.
He said the airline would soon increase its fleet following the completion of C-checks on a Boeing 737-500 in France and another B737-400 maintained at its facility at the Lagos airport.
“It is true that our aircraft, which went out for maintenance in France will be returning to the country by this weekend.
“Apart from this, we are currently carrying out maintenance on another B737-400 aircraft, and hopefully, it will be out of maintenance yard in the next two to three weeks,” Sanusi said.
The airline is under the management of the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON). It had sacked 60 per cent of its total workforce in March 2017 as part of efforts to reposition its operations.
In the past few months, it recalled at least 69 workers following the successful conducts of C-Checks on Boeing 737 aircraft at its Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility.
