Onyeama Calls For Allocation Of 2% Of Nation’s GDP To Science, Research, Innovation

Geoffrey Onyeama, Minister of Foreign Affairs, has advocated that two percent of the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) should be allocated to the development of sciences, research and innovation in the country.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the Technology and Innovation EXPO 2021 at the weekend in Abuja, Onyeama said developed countries across the world have made significant investments in science, technology and innovation.

It would be recalled that at the opening ceremony of the event, President Muhammadu Buhari represented by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, had pledged to allocate 0.5 per cent of the nation’s GDP to science and innovation.

Onyeama contended that no society can prosper and grow without science and innovation, adding that Nigeria needs to invest more in research, innovation and provision of enabling environment.
