21 arrested for stealing rail track facilities in Niger

The Niger State Police Command has paraded 21 suspects for railway vandalism in Esheti-Elegi community of Kataeregi in the Katcha Local Government Area.

 The command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, at the police headquarters in Minna, said 17 of the suspects were arrested on 22nd March, 2021, when the police intercepted three trucks loaded with rail tracks.

 Abiodun noted that three drivers were also arrested. They are Salisu Bashiru, Shehu Garba and Yunusa Suleiman.

 One of the suspects, Mohammad Usman, told reporters that they were contracted by one Alhaji Idris from Kaduna, a scrap dealer.  

The PPRO also said two suspects were arrested on March 17, 2021, with a truck loaded with 80 pieces of rail slippers along Kataeregi-Minna Road. 

Abiodun said, “The cases are under investigation and the suspects will be soon be arraigned in court.”
