110 Abuja traffic lights non-functional

As a result of the concern raised by residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja over the non-functional traffic lights, the FCT Administration has revealed that out of the 172 traffic lights, only 62 are functioning.

Acting Secretary FCTA Transportation Secretariat, Usman Yahaya who disclosed this yesterday while briefing reporters on the status of traffic light installations in the Territory said short and long-term measures have been initiated to fix the 110 non-functional traffic lights in the city.

Findings have also revealed that the development has caused serious accidents due to no fault of the motorists.

Yahaya said the administration has intensified measures towards addressing the challenges of random non-functional traffic installations in Abuja.

To this end, he said adequate provision was made in the recently-passed 2021 FCT Appropriation, which is awaiting presidential assent to pave the way for the commencement of procurement processes.

This  will translate to tangible improvement in the repair of non-functional traffic light installations, provision of critical spare parts required for periodic maintenance.
