Dangote industries train journalists on convergence journalism in North-East

The Dangote Industries Limited in conjunction with Folio Media Creative Academy has trained media practitioners to acquire more knowledge for effective reportage in the North-East geopolitical zone.

The Chairman of Adamawa State Council, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Mr Dedan Ishaku, said this on Monday at a three-day critical media practice workshop in Yola, Adamawa.

The training which is organised for selected journalists from the zone is titled: “the Convergence Journalism”.

Ishaku, who declared the training open, commended the Dangote Industries for organising the training to enhance the knowledge of media practitioners in the zone.

He urged participants to concentrate and develop interest to acquire more knowledge that would improve their skills and productivity.

He urged the organisers of the workshop to rotate the training programme through the states of the North East to avail journalists with the opportunity to benefit from modern techniques of reporting.

Earlier, Mr Alabi Pius, Project Coordinator, Folio Media and Creative Academy (FMCA), said the training arm of Folio Communications Plc., Publishers of Daily Times newspaper, conceived the programme to equip journalists.

He said other category included Media Executives, Public Relations Officers and other professionals to critically analyze the nation’s development trajectory, democratization process, social change as well as gain creative and technical media production skills.

In his presentation Dr Abdullahi Bashir of the Modibbo Adama University, Yola, stressed the need for media practitioners to increase their knowledge on convergence Journalism to cope with global trends in the industry.

Bashir, who described journalism as dynamic, said that journalists must change in order to remain relevant in the daily technologically transforming world.
