OML 42: Host communities fault operators’ negligence, threatens showdown

Fresh crisis is looming in the oil rich Niger Delta region as the OML 42 host communities in Warri South and Warri South-West local government areas of Delta State have given the managements of NPDC/NECONDE AMT JV, operators of the OML, 14 days to honour terms of agreement signed with the communities.

A statement on Wednesday said the communities, under the aegis of 0ML 42 Host Communities Forum, issued the threat after an emergency meeting, insisting that failure by the oil companies to abide by the ultimatum would lead to a shutdown of oil exploration activities in the area.

The statement jointly signed by Chief Samson Oyimi, Hon. Shedrack Otuaro and Amb. Billy Ekele on behalf of the host communities, listed the demands of the communities to include “adherence to the Field Memorandum of Understanding with the OML 42 host communities, the issue of contracts award to OML 42 host communities, payment of scholarship arrears awarded to OML 42 host community students in post primary schools and tertiary institutions and other key issues.”
