LAWMA reopens Olusosun dumpsite after two days of closure

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) yesterday, reopened Olusosun dumpsite after it was shut down for two days. Managing Director/CEO of LAWMA, Mr. Ibrahim Odumboni, in a statement yesterday, said the two-day closure of the dumpsite was necessary to decongest and prepare the site in anticipation of more waste that might be generated during the yuletide.

According to him, December would witness more influx of trucks due to the volume of waste that would be generated during the period and 70 per cent of waste generated in Lagos is deposited at Olusosun.

He noted that the authority is working at ensuring that 10 trucks can tip at once, as turn around time was crucial for waste management and the tipping platform has to be very stable, so that waste disposal does not take more than 10 minutes.

Odumboni said that the same maintenance work carried out at the Olusosun dumpsite would be extended to other dumping sites across the metropolis starting from Solous, Igando, which will be shut down for days for the same reason.

He appealed to Lagosians, especially residents living around the affected areas, to bear with the authority, adding that any inconveniences arising from ongoing maintenance in the dumpsite is for the good of the masses and for a better service delivery.

In a related development, Odumboni, yesterday received an award from the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP), for the sanitisation and repositioning of LAWMA since his appointment.

Speaking at the event held in Ikeja,  Odumboni, thanked the organisers for honouring him and pledged to work hard by delivering the authority’s mandate of making Lagos State livable and better.
