Wayas served Nigeria with passion — Atiku

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has mourned the Second Republic Senate President, Dr Joseph Wayas, saying he will forever be remembered as one who served the country well and his people with passion.

Abubakar in a statement by his Media Office in Abuja on Thursday, described Wayas as a consummate politician, democrat and detribalised Nigerian.

He said that Wayas contributed in no small measure to the enthronement of democracy in Nigeria.

“The legacy of his political beliefs and triumphs will be important footnotes in the literature of Nigeria’s government and politics for generations yet to come,” Abubakar said.

The former vice president prayed God to stand by the bereaved family, and grant the government and people of Cross River the fortitude to bear the loss.
