Obaseki advises passing out corps members to shun negative acts

Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has urged the 2, 001 Batch A, Stream 1, 2017 out-going Corps members that served in the state to shun acts capable of jeopardising their future.

Obaseki gave the advice on Thursday in Benin during the passing-out ceremony of the corps members.

Represented by his deputy, Philip Shaibu, he noted that acts such as corruption, kidnapping, illicit drug trafficking, prostitution and obtaining by false pretense should be shunned.

“The end of the NYSC service year is not an end of service to the nation, but only a phase of life which has prepared you for greater tasks ahead.

“I want to remind you that the era of white-collar job is over, so, take maximum advantage of series of lectures on skills acquisition and entrepreneurship training you received during the orientation course.

“The opportunity offered by wealth creation initiatives such as SAED, MDGs NYSC, WAP, CBN/NYSC collaboration, targeted at assisting corps members, is an advantage to your future and should be embraced. It will save you from the frustrations many job seekers are experiencing in the labour market,’’ he said.

Earlier, the State Coordinator of the scheme, Mr Yusuf Abdullahi, said no death was recorded among the corps members in the batch and none of the corps members was repeating the service year.

He said that five corps members who distinguished themselves through execution of beneficial projects in their host communities would receive letters of commendation from Edo Government.

Abdullahi urged the outgoing corps members to put lessons they learnt during the service year to use and be good ambassadors of their families the NYSC and where they might be after the service.

He also called on them to be part of the change mantra of the present administration.
