FRSC tasks NUPENG-PTD on safety

By Thompson ABISOLA

The Ogun Command of Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Monday advised the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas (NUPENG), Petroleum Tanker Driver (PTD) to adhere strictly to safety standards.

Mr Clement Oladele, Ogun Sector Commander of FRSC, gave the advice in an in Sango-Ota. He said adhering to roads safety standards was the only antidote to frequent accidents and tankers explosions within city centers.

Oladele, while reacting to the June 29 tanker explosion on Otedola Bridge, Lagos, said the operators of the heavy duty vehicles must be circumspect at all times.

Oladele further said tanker owners must ensure that their vehicles were in good condition to avoid unnecessary crashes. “We implore them to maintain safety standards and ensure that they do not cut any corners as they go about their businesses,” he said.

He said NUPENG PTD and operators of haulage vehicles should conduct regular training for their drivers, and that the drivers must be taught to appreciate safety strategies.

“Tanker drivers must ensure contents in their vehicles are not dropping on the highways. It doesn’t take any effort for the high inflammable product to explode,” he said.
