JEDC boss orders refund of money paid by customers for purchase of pre-paid meters

The Jos Electricity Distribution Company (JED) PLC, has ordered the business unit of the company to refund money paid by customers for the purchase of prepayment meters.

Alhaji  Gidado  Modibbo, Managing  Director of the company issued the directive for the refund in Gombe on Wednesday during a meeting between the management and customers.

Modibbo, who was represented by the company’s Executive Director, Marketing and Investment, Mr Verr Jirbo, said the money should be refunded through credit units and not in cash.

He emphasized that the meters were supplied to customers free of charge, as such no money should be paid for them.

According to him, JED is aware that electricity is important for economic development, and therefore warned that no customer should be shortage-changed.

In his remarks at the occasion, Gov.Ibrahim Dnkwambo of Gombe expressed regretted that in spite of the huge investment in the power sector, there was nothing to show in terms of power supply to the state.

Represented by Malam Hassan Ahmadu, Commissioner for Rural Development, the governor called on JED to improve on its services, promising that the state government would offer assistance when necessary.

Also speaking, Malam Abubakar Alhaji, Head of Human Resource, JEDC, said the company was doing its best to satisfy customers.

According to him, their activities are heavily regulated, adding that any unwholesome practice will be sanctioned.

Speaker,  Gombe State House of Assembly, Nasiru Nono, stressed the need for JED to be organizing interactive sessions with its customers to clarify grey areas.
