Borno-Yobe Customs Area Command generates N78m revenues in 6 months

By Meletus EZE

The Borno-Yobe command of the Nigeria Custom Service (NCS) said it generated over N78 million revenue in six months.

The Customs Area Controller, Mr Joshua Angbalaga, made the disclosure while reviewing the activities of the command on Tuesday in Maiduguri.

According to Angbalaga, the amount represents over 60 per cent of the targeted N 137 million revenue for 2018.

He also disclosed that the command seized three trucks loaded with 146 bags of smoked fish, value at more than N3 million on Yunusari-Geidam road in Yobe, adding that the fish were seized on the directive of the military.

Angbalaga said the command also seized a truck loaded with 2,900 cartons of crusader medicated soap, valued at N245.831 million.

The customs area controller said the command also seized another truck conveying 100 bags of imported rice within the period under review.

He lamented that only three of the 13 border posts were functioning due to Boko Haram insurgency in north-east. Angbalaga listed the Gamboru, Bama/Banki and Geidam as some of the existing operational border posts.

According to him, the command conducts radio sensitisation to create awareness on the e-auction programme and check scam on fake recruitment by the command.

Angbalaga added that the command recorded significant success in its operations despite the security challenges in the region.

According to him, the command has initiated sound motivational programmes to promote staff welfare, discipline and dedication to duty.

He lauded Dangote Foundation over the donation of two bedroom flats to widows of two personnel of the command killed by the insurgents.
