VSF launches dry season farming intervention programme

The Victims Support Fund (VSF) on Thursday launched dry season farming intervention programme in Yusufari Local Government of Yobe.

The fund’s Executive Director, Prof. Sunday Ochoche, represented by Director Programme of the VSF,
Prof. Nana Tanko, said that restoring livelihood in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe was extremely important.

He added that “the population, especially in the three states of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe have lost their livelihoods and we know that most of them are farmers.

“With that, it means that majority of the people depend on agricultural activities: we must ensure that people have go back to what they are used to, which is farming.

“VSF believes that this project will we not only support households, but help to restore and rebuild the economy.

“VSF remains one of the major agencies chosen to work in high risk areas.”

He added that VSF chose to work in insurgency ravaged communities to support the resilience of the people that decided to return, “though security was not established as much as we wanted.”

He said that the targeted communities in Yunusari Local Government are Mozagun, Bultuwa, Dekwa, Degeltra and Mairari.

The dry season farming intervention tools were mini tractors, water pumps, improved varieties of seeds, fertilizers, pesticides and sprayers.

The tools would be given to communities to help them on the farms.
