By Thompson ABISOLA

Niger State Government said it had spent over N1billion on procurement and distribution of vehicles and communication gadgets to various security agencies in the state.

The state governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani, stated this on Tuesday in Minna, while presenting the state 2019 Appropriation Bill of N159.5 billion to the House of Assembly.

“We have distributed patrol vehicles to the Nigeria Police, Nigerian Army, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), NDLEA, Nigeria Immigration Services, with modern communication facilities to enable them performed optimally,’’ he said.

Sani said that the government would continue to accord priority to security personnel to enable them discharge their constitutional responsibility without hindrance.

“We are fully committed towards providing peaceful atmosphere for the smooth implementation of all electoral processes to ensure free, fair and credible elections in 2019,’’ he added.

The governor called on politicians, especially those seeking election, to preach the principles of tolerance and understanding among their followers.

He also appealed to registered persons yet to collect their permanent voter card to do so, saying that the card was the only tool needed to elect a preferred leader.

He urged traditional and religious leaders to compliment the efforts of the state government by mobilising residents to volunteer information on bad elements in their midst.

The governor reminded the people that the task of providing peaceful environment was not only for security agencies.

He called for commitment of citizens to supporting security agencies with necessary information to enable them to rid the state of bad elements.
