Only ingenious creativity can uplift Nigerian film industry, says producer

By Aliyu DANLADI

Showemimo Olu Paul, a film producer and marketer, says only ingenious creativity can uplift the Nigerian film industry and make it competitive in the global space.

The Director of Wemimo Films Production, Showemimo, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Ibadan on Thursday.

“There are lots of contents being released day in day out in Nollywood, but only a few will stand the test of time; people respect true creativity and it takes time to create content that would be widely accepted.

“Good contents will fetch film practitioners huge money but it takes time and effort to make it happen; such does not happen overnight.”

He, however, enjoined young film practitioners to be dedicated to quality and excellence, noting that hard work pays on the long run.

The ace film producer and financier emphasised leveraging on technology and goodwill to promote their work, adding that government should make favourable policies to curb piracy and make funds available at cheaper interest rate to movie makers.

In a separate interview, Kayode Adebayo, the convener of African Music Festival, said it was imperative to promote Nollywood beyond the shores of Nigeria.

“Much attention should be given to issues bordering on the growth of film industry in Nigeria such that the industry can attract the right investment and innovation that will grow it.

“It is time we had low cost film for consumption in the country; one that religious outfits can champion towards the development of the society at large, as this will bring in more revenue for the country,” Adebayo said.

Adebayo advocated for collaboration among stakeholders in the industry to revolutionize the sector and enhance economic opportunities.
