Developmental programmes will improve football in Nigeria – FRSC FC coach

By Godwin HILLS

Akinade Onigbinde, the Coach of FRSC FC of Abuja, on Monday said the  best approach to encourage a successful football culture in the country was a well-crafted developmental programme.

Onigbinde said in Abuja that developmental programmes like the U-15 football leagues were vital to the growth of the game.

The coach called on football authorities in the country to introduce more of schools’ football competitions to guarantee the development of the sport.

“Government and football managers should encourage competitions among secondary schools to lay the foundation for greater football.

“Leagues should be introduced for U-12, U-15 etc. in order to catch them young,” Onigbinde said.

Onigbinde also commended the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for its efforts in promoting football, and urged it to do more to improve the profile of the sport in the country.

He stressed the need for critical stakeholders to do more in the area of grassroots football development, which he described as the foundation of the game.

The FRSC coach also commended his players for the creditable performance they had put up in the just concluded Nigeria National League (NNL) season.

FRSC FC failed to gain promotion to the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL), but said it remained undaunted in its quest to gain promotion to the upper level of the nation’s football league.
