The executive secretary of Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) Engr. SImbi Wabote and the vice chairman, ExxonMobil affiliates in Nigeria, Udom Inoyo, have lauded Nigerian businesses for their contribution to in-country capacities and capabilities.
“Nigerian businesses are taking up the challenge to grow their outfits and thereby contribute to in-country capacities and capabilities”, Simbi Wabote executive secretary, NCDMB said in his keynote address during the official opening of Global Process & Pipeline Services Limited (GPPS) operations base and corporate office in Port Harcourt adding that GPPS operational base currently has one of the largest in-country pumping, process and pipeline services’ equipment fleet, capacity and competency with uncommon focus within this product service line in Nigeria.
Wabote said that the NCDMB board “is proud to identify with GPPS for the establishment of this company to provide world class services to the oil and gas sector without compromising standards and safety. This tallies with our 10-year strategic roadmap aimed at increasing the level of Nigerian Content in the oil and gas sector to 70 percent by 2027”.
“Within the last few months I have attended the commissioning of a sub-surface research and laboratory center, a supply vessel, a security vessel, and a safety training center. There are also several completed training activities targeted at Human Capacity Development. It is always a delight to attend such events and I look forward to more invitations”, Wabote said.
Udom Inoyo, vice chairman, ExxonMobil affiliates in Nigeria, said that the international oil company embraced local content in the oil and gas sector even before the inception of the Nigerian Content Act.
“We are glad that we gave GPPS the opportunity to perform when it was a start-up and it has paid off”, Inoyo said.
Obi Uzu, managing director, GPPS, while lauding ExxonMobil for its contribution to its growth said that at inception “as a strategy in anticipation for growth, we put in place a governance code for the shareholders. Thereafter, deliberate efforts were invested to get GPPS certified by various IOCs, industry players and regulatory agencies. Organisational and management control structures were developed and put in place to give room for this rapid growth the company has witnessed”.
Wabote called on other oil and gas service providers to emulate GPPS in their focus and dedication.
“Just like local content, growth is not a quick dash but something that needs to be worked on steadily till full rewards are realized. As we celebrate with the management and staff of GPPS Limited, I also want to appreciate the IOCs for their support in successful implementation of Nigerian Content and encourage them and other Oil and Gas service providers to remain resolute and have continuous faith in the ability of local companies to deliver”.
Over the years, GPPS have built its reputation on professionalism and quality service delivery in the oil and gas sector, without compromising safety and quality standards with the ability to provide value, reliability, and technically effective solutions to its ever-increasing clientele base.
