By Abisola THOMPSON

Alhaji Aliyu Idris-Ibrahim, then Chairman, Zaria Local Government Area of Kaduna State, on Thursday advised Nigerians to embark on consistent prayers for the peceful and successful conduct of the 2019 elections.

Idris-Ibrahim made the plea while donating a car to the executives of the All Progressives Congress (APC) of the local government at the party secretariat on Zaria-Jos Road, Kaduna State.

He said that the call became imperative in view of the critical role of prayers toward ensuring peace, unity and national cohesion.

“We don’t have any other nation than Nigeria, hence the need to do everything possible to ensure that the country sustained the prevailing peace and remains as one entity.”

The chairman said he was moved to make the donation in order to lift the party to greater heights and to leave a legacy to be remembered even after leaving office.

“We want to collectively do something, so that even if we are not alive, people will remember us and pray for us; therefore, I am here to officially fulfill my promise of car donation.”

Responding, the APC Chairman, Zaria Local Government, Alhaji Abdu Ringo, thanked the council chairman for the kind gesture.

Ringo said the party was certainly happy and proud to have him as council chairman because of his care and concern not only for the party officials but also the entire residents of the area.

“We are also happy that you have been visiting wards and polling units to officially award projects to contractors estimated at over N1.1 billion; this is the first of its kind in the history of the council, if not the state at large.

“We want to appeal to you not to relent and I assure you that we at the party level will give you all the necessary support and encouragement to succeed,” he assured.

TBI Africa quoted the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) to have reported that the council chairman also visited the 13 wards of the local government to award contracts to various contractors.

Speaking during the presentation of certificates to contractors in Dambo ward, the chairman assured electorate that APC would never let them down.

Idris-Ibrahim called for prayers from all party members toward the success of President Muhammadu Buhari and all other APC flag-bearers in the forthcoming elections.

Ringo, who was represented by the Vice Chairman, Alhaji Buhari Musa-Bizara, said that the party considered Dambo Ward as an area of priority.

In their separate responses, community leaders commended the chairman for executing what they described as human interest projects.

They pledged to give Buhari and APC the necessary support to succeed in the upcoming general elections.

The projects include drilling and repair of boreholes, construction of drainage channels and culverts, electrification and construction of primary schools, among others.
