Surety arraigned over alleged disappearance of suspect

A 45-year-old surety, Dickson Ogor, on Friday appeared before a Kubwa Grade1 Area Court, Abuja, over alleged non production of a crime suspect when need by the police.

The accused was charged on one count of obstructing the cause of justice.

According to the Prosecutor, Mr Babajide Olanipekun, the surety failed to produce a crime suspect, Mary Ogor, for whom he stood as a surety.

Olanipekun told the court that the surety also deceived the police on Nov. 17, 2018, by claiming that the suspect was his daughter.

He said that the surety did not provide the suspect when needed by the police but caused her to disappear, in contravention of Section 167 of the Penal Code.

However, the accused pleaded not guilty.

The Judge, Mr Ibrahim Balarabe, granted him N100,000 bail with one surety who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.

He adjourned the matter until March 6 for hearing.——-NAN
