Outage: Osun Assembly intervenes in dispute between IBEDC, community

By Elizabeth ADENUGA

The Osun House of Assembly has directed its House Committee on Public Petition to meet with the management of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) and representatives of  Ilesa and its environs  to resolve the dispute between them.

The Speaker of the House, Mr Najeem Salaam, gave the directive to the committee during plenary in Osogbo on Monday.

The directive was given after the  member representing Ilesa West, Mr Tajudeen Famuyide, raised the issue under Matters  of Public Importance.

Famuyide said the electricity distribution company had withdrawn its services from the area due to a face-off between its staff and some youths in Ilesa.

He noted that the development was crippling business activities in the area  and urged the house to intervene.

TBI Africa said that the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)  recalls that some irate youths from Obokun in Ilesa had beaten  up some IBEDC workers  on Thursday.

In another development, the Osun State High Court Amendment Bill, 2019, passed through the first reading on the floor of the Assembly when it was presented and read by the Deputy Majority Leader, Mr Dejo Bello.

While reading the policy thrust of the bill, Bello explained that increasing the number of State High Courts to 50 from 20 would fast track dispensation of justice.

Other lawmakers, who spoke on the bill, called for its immediate passage,  stressing that it would help  decongest prisons when passed into law.

In his remarks, Salaam directed  the Committee on Judiciary to look into the bill and report back to the House as soon as possible.
