(dpa/Africa.com) Indonesia’s Disaster Agency on Monday confirmed 29 deaths with 13 listed as missing after days of pounding storms on the island of Sumatra in Bengkulu province.
Sutopo Nugroho, a spokesman for the National Disaster Management Agency, said Tsome 12,000 others have been evacuated from water-logged Bengkulu province with hundreds of buildings, bridges and roads damaged.
“No fewer than four people were injured and over 12,000 displaced after the disasters that followed heavy rain in parts of Bengkulu over the weekend.
“Floods have subsided in some places, but the displaced need tents, blankets and food,’’ Nugroho said.
Report says floods and landslides are common in Indonesia during the rainy season.
