DPR chief seeks help for Gombe fire victims

The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has appealed to the Gombe State Government, individuals and corporate bodies to assist the victims of the fire incident that killed 18 people in the state on April 13.

Abdullahi Abawa, Controller of Operations at the Gombe Field Office of the DPR, made the appeal at a news conference on Tuesday in Gombe.

TBI Africa.com said the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the fire occurred when a truck loaded with fuel fell off the Gombe-Biu Bye-Pass Bridge, killing 18 people while many others sustained injuries

Abawa said the assistance was to enable the victims to return to their businesses.

The controller also appealed to the State Government to refurbish fire-fighting facilities at the state’s fire service offices to enable them to respond to emergencies.

He also pleaded with members of the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria to acquire fire-fighting equipment in the course of distributing petroleum product across the country.
