KEDCO attributes power outage to collapse of national grid

The Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) has attributed the current power outage to its customers in Kano, Katsina, and Jigawa states to the collapse of the national grid.

This is contained in a statement by the company’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Mohammed Kandi on Thursday.

Kandi said: “As the national grid collapsed for the third time in two days, living KEDCO with no power to share, the firm is hereby pleading with its esteemed customers over the inconveniences resulting from the persistent power outage being experienced.

“The management of KEDCO sincerely apologises to all its esteemed customers in Kano, Jigawa, and Katsina states on the ongoing power shortage being experienced at their various locations.”

He explained that power was restored to customers at about 10am on Thurs, May 9, after the second collapse which occurred by 5:27am.

“The grid crashed again at exactly 2:24pm on Thursday, thereby forcing KEDCO coverage areas to deal with zero Megawatts,” he added.

He, however, assured customers that normal power cut would be restored to KEDCO’s network area as soon as the grid stabilised.

TBI Africa.com said the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the power cut has begun to affect the cost of commodities.

For instance, a medium-sizes block of ice which used to cost N50, now sells for between N150 and N200.

NAN also reports that the power cut and the heat wave that has hit Kano and neighbouring states, have combined to make life unbearable for residents.
