Chief Magistrate urges public office holders to adhere to oaths

The Chief Magistrate of Garaku in Nasarawa State, Mr Ali Changbo, has advised public office holders to always adhere to oaths taken before assuming duties, declaring that the non-adherence to same was stalling development.

Changbo stated this on Monday at the swearing-in ceremony of a Secretary, Supervisory Councillors, Senior Special Assistants, and other appointees of Kokona Local Government Area of the state.

Changbo,who was represented by Mr Theophilus Lama, Senior Magistrate, Auta-Balaifi Magistrate’s Court, said that adhering to oaths would ensure accountability and diligence in service delivery.

He stressed the need for a change of attitude in the interest of speedy growth and development, urging the new appointees to take the lead in changing the narrative so as to move the local government forward.

Earlier, the Executive Chairman of the local government, Mr Saidu Kurki, had cautioned political appointees against corrupt tendencies and indiscipline, and advised them to work as a team, irrespective of perceived differences.

He said that their appointments were based on merit, and advised them to strive to live up to public expectations.

“You have to be above board because I will not spare anybody involved in any negative tendencies capable of hurting our corporate interest,” he said.

Kurki enjoined them to quickly settle down to assist his government in providing quality services to the people, urging them to deploy their wealth of experience toward maintaining peace to create the right environment for speedy development.

Responding on behalf of other appointees, the Secretary, Mr Augustine Ogaba, thanked the Chairman for the trust bestowed on the new officials and promised to work hard toward making Kokona Local Government a model.

Other officials included four supervisory councillors – Bamaiyi Mamman, Ladi Audu, Ezekiel Kukus and Micah Dogo, while Ahmed Musa is to serve as Deputy Chairman and supervisory councillor for agriculture.===NAN
