Kaduna State Maternal Accountability Mechanism (KADMAM) an NGO is seeking partnership with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) for improved coverages of programmes on maternal health.
Chairman of the organization, Garba Mohammed said during a courtesy visit to the NAN Zonal office on Monday in Kaduna.
According to him, the visit is to promote areas of mutual collaboration with NAN and improved coverage of MNCH issues in the State.
“Media play the role of knowledge, management and communication aids in the achievement of KADMAM overall objectives through effective Information dissemination, strengthening knowledge management,” he said.
Mohammed explained that KADMAM’s goal is to contribute to the improvement of maternal health services in the State.
” One of our major achievement is the Open Kaduna Health Sector which is a quarterly interaction with the state ministry of health and partners in the health sector such as PEARL, MNCH2, UNICEF, DPRC, SMOH.”
He said KADMAM was first established in Kaduna to promote accountability in management of maternal health, followed by Kano, Niger, Bauchi, and Sokoto states, while effort was on establish the organization in Kebbi.
Mohammed also said the organization is working closely with the government to ensure universal access to an essential package of health care.
” We facilitate increased service intake for health care services by women and vulnerable group, provide collaborative mechanism for engaging partners in the provision of health care services.
” We also facilitate provision of adequate funding needed for the provision of quality healthcare services, and health data analysis and dissemination.
He said the organization’s objective was to promote accountability, transparency and responsiveness in the state health care system.
In his response, the Zonal Manager of the News Agency of Nigeria, Malam Maharazu Ahmed appreciated the organisation for the initiative and assured them of good working relationship.
He said the initiative would make policy makers to work towards delivering quality services and ensure improvement in the quality of health services offered to ordinary people.
The manager urged them to also develop ways of educating people in rural areas to access maternal health services and also breakdown socioeconomic barriers inhibiting them from doing so.
Ahmed also urged the organisation to track and ensure that the quality of care offered patients in health facilities meet basic standards, as poor services had kept away alot of people from hospitals
