Ojikutu felicitates with Jakande at 90

A former deputy-governor of Lagos State, Alhaja Sinatu Ojukutu, on Monday congratulated a former governor of the state, Alhaji Lateef Jakande, on his birthday.

Ojikutu, who was deputy governor between 1992 and 1993, gave the congratulatory message in a statement she issued in Lagos.

Jakande, who was the first civilian governor of the state, turns 90 on Tuesday.

Ojikutu said she was proud to rejoice with the former governor on his birthday, as he was a man who had touched many lives.

She described Jakande as a political icon who had demonstrated exemplary leadership and genuine commitment to the welfare of the people.

Ojikutu, who was deputy to a late former governor, Sir Michael Otedola, said despite having left office about 36 years ago, Jakande’s housing projects, schools and others were still everywhere.

She added that she was proud to be part of Jakande’s success team between 1979 and 1983, alongside other notable individuals.

Ojikutu described Jakande’s political model as highly impactful and urged young and aspiring politicians across the country to emulate him.

“He has left an indelible record of what public service devoid of corruption should be.

“Alhaji Jakande is a pace-setter yet to be beaten or surpassed in his many contributions to Lagos State.

“LKJ, as he is fondly called, founded Lagos State University(LASU), and I think we should not wit until his death to name the institution after him.

“In a country where the life expectancy is 49, it is a thing of joy celebrating 90 years on earth.

“As you join the nonagenarians club, I pray Allah will continue to be with you and your family,’’ she said.
