Ladipo lauds Lewis Boxing Promotion on Ileya fiesta

Dr Rafiu Ladipo, the President, Nigeria Boxing Board of Control (NBBoC) has lauded Lewis Boxing Promotion, the organiser of Ileya Boxing Fiesta.

Ladipo told newsmen in Ibadan on Thursday that only promoters such as Lewis could help the NBBoC in its drive to totally revive Nigerian boxing and restore the lost glory of the country in boxing.

The Lewis Boxing Promotion is owned by Henry Lewis, a Nigeria-born boxing promoter with its headquarters in Austria.

” I am quite delighted with what is happening here today. I was also a boxer here in Ibadan at Oke-Foko in the early 70s with the likes of late Joseph Ladipo and Muili Ojo before I moved to Lagos.

“So, I’m a proud Ibadan man. Ibadan is a traditional home to Nigerian boxing and it has played a significant role in the history of Nigerian boxing.

“I am delighted to see Lewis Promotion bring back a big boxing show to Ibadan, I can’t wait to be part of the epic boxing show,” Ladipo said.

Micheal Ovie, who spoke on behalf of Lewis Promotions, assured boxing fans of safe and secured setting, saying adequate security would be provided.

“We know Ibadan boxing fans are not troublemakers, but we have made arrangements to secure the entire stadium,” he said.

The boxing fiesta is scheduled to hold at the main bowl of Obafemi Awolowo Stadium on Aug. 12.
